Chicago Public Schools began holding an annual Science Fair in 1950 as a way of encouraging young people to get interested in, and proficient at, conducting scientific research. Renamed the CPS STEM Exhibition, the fair has become a great way of connecting students with outside organizations eager to support the next generation of scientists by providing awards, scholarships, and prizes in recognition of outstanding scientific work.
Peterson’s STEM Fair (as we will call it) is intended to give students, like yourself, an opportunity to tinker with a topic or idea that you are interested in! If you like animals, you could study animal behavior. If you like video games, you could study the effects of gaming on motor skills. If you like chemistry, you could experiment with some of the foods we eat. Everyone in 7th grade is required to participate at some level, but there are some choices.
