Before Starting the Volunteer Process

Please decide if you would like to be a Level 1 Volunteer or a Level 2 Volunteer.

Examples of Level I Volunteers:

  • Field trip chaperones taking groups independently (out of sight of the teacher)

    • For example, a class goes to the zoo and the Level I volunteer is taking a group of 7 students to see a separate exhibit.

  • Overnight field trip chaperones

  • Mentors, tutors, or coaches

  • Non-supervised classroom assistants

Examples of Level II Volunteers:

  • Occasional classroom volunteers under Peterson staff supervision

  • Day field trip chaperones (while in sight of the teacher)

  • Other volunteer activities in contact with students while supervised

Note the following requirements for each:

  • New volunteer applications need to be submitted each school year for both Level 1 and 2.

  • Level 1 Volunteers need to submit a copy of a photo ID and will also need to complete a TB test (good for up to two (2) years of volunteering) and background check (fingerprints submitted each). Level 1 volunteers also need to complete a required 4.5 hour safety training within 30 days of applying.

  • Level 2 Volunteers will ONLY need to submit a copy of a photo ID.

You may upload your photo ID using the link, or you can bring your ID to the office to be photocopied.
